Activities
The University can be an important resource in terms of education, commissioned training, and as an employer, but can also organise collection of basic necessities and other equipment, or this can be done on private initiatives by staff or students.
Universitetet at the Parents and Kids Fair

18-20 March, the university participated in the yearly Parents and Kids Fair to share information on how employers can contribute by receiving refugee interns.
Friendship Day

Karlstad Student Union arranges Friendship Days for refugees. The purpose of this event is to invite you to an enjoyable spring activity where refugees and students at Karlstad University can meet.
Internships

Children's university

The first Monday of every month until June, we will arrange a Children’s University event for refugee children in Värmland. Families will be served coffee from 14.00 and at 15.00, the children will be treated to a special edition of the Children’s University.
Donation for refugees

On Monday 18 January, there is an opportunity to support refugees by donating clothes (indoor and outdoor), shoes, hygiene articles, toys, pens and pads, and parlour games to the asylum and refugee accommodations in Värmland. The collection takes place in the university gym hall between 09:00-13:00.
Meeting non-accompanied minors

Non-accompanied minors will visit Karlstad University on 18 January together with Birgitta Mellberg, who is integration supervisor and works at the unit for non-accompanied minors, at the employment and social services offices in Karlstad. The young people will be given a tour of the university and then Hamid Asghari, senior lecturer in educational work will talk about his escape to Sweden as a 19-year-old refugee from Iran in 1987 and his life in Sweden, followed by a discussion during which the refugees can talk about their own experiences, their goals for a life in Sweden and their chances of fulfilling their goals.
Meeting för refugees

On Tuesday, 15 December, at 15.00-17-30, the university arranges a meeting at the university for refugees staying at the centre of Karlstad.
A total of 100 persons are expected to attend. The purpose is to show the university and to give information about the university and its operations. The visitors will be treated to coffee, brief information about the university and guided tours. The Library will organise a music quiz and the sports hall will be open to refugee children.
The shoe box appeal

On 3 December some of our students will collect Christmas presents for three refugee accommodations in Karlstad. Put you gifts in a shoe box and leave it in the Aula Magna foyer.
The shoe box appeal collects and helps distribute Christmas presents to organisations that support individuals and families that for some reason cannot have the pleasure of receiving a Christmas gift.
In 2015 we provide collection points and receiving organisations all over Sweden. Welcome!
