Reformation of the welfare state
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course is based on historical comparative perspective viewing the reforming of the public sector in the light of economic, social and political processes. The focus is on Sweden while comparisons are made with other European countries. Different welfare models are compared. The guiding principles of modern administration are studied.
The municipal and regional administration levels are studied thoroughly, especially the impact of international trends, e.g. globalisation and Europeanisation, on the contemporary public administration. The governance concept is developed from a local perspective. The complexity of multi-level governance in combination with the increasing role of the EU is studied as are administrative political trends from a democracy and gender perspective.

Admission requirements
At least 22.5 ECTS cr completed of SVGA50 Political Science I, 30 ECTS cr, or 37.5 course credits completed for semesters 1 and 2 of the Spatial and Social Planning Programme (SGSAM), or equivalent.
