Intersectionality: age, gender and ethnicity
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course treats the concept of intersectionality and its historical development. Based on the fact that age has been a less prominent factor in research on intersectionality, this course has a special focus on age. Age is discussed as a category and a power structure as a basis for discussions about how age intersects with other power structures, such as gender and ethnicity. The course covers how intersectionality has been applied theoretically and methodologically in various research traditions, for instance gender studies and ageing research, and what this means for analyses of intersectionality. An important part of the course is for students to reflect critically upon how power structures based on age, gender, and ethnicity can intersect and be theorised and studied methodologically. For assessment, students are expected to carry out basic analyses of age, gender, and ethnicity as power structures.
