The Field of Social Work

- Social politics and welfare at the levels of the individual, group and society

The course includes the following modules:
Module 1 The Field of Social Work 1-7.5 ECTS cr
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- demonstrate knowledge of the history and development of the field in a sociopolitical perspective,
- describe social support and aid efforts in social care and social work and how these are organised and implemented,
- demonstrate knowledge of strategies of change at the levels of the individual, group and society,
- describe the background and prerequisites of voluntary social work and its potential as a complement to public social care,
- give an account of different forms of voluntary work complementing public social care.
The module introduces the field of social work. The history and development of social politics at levels of the individual, group and society are treated as are different circumstances and living conditions throughout life. Social work and social care are dealt with conceptually and practically along with strategies of social change and the importance of additional voluntary work, Instruction is in the form of lecturees, group work and seminars.
Module 2 The Social Field of Work 7.5 - 15 ECTS cr.
Upon completion of the course students should be able to:
- describe the purpose and forms of social care and social work,
- give an account of the changing circumstances in the life of an individual,
- give an account of the factors of importance for life quality,
- give an account of young people's need of care and change in connection with the transformation om the welfare state,
- give a general account of the welfare state's design, function and development trends.
The course addresses issues of form concerning social care and work in society, and the possibilities of the field today from the perspective of the individual. Life quality and factors making a good life are discussed, as are conditions of growing up in a changing society. Instruction is in the form of lectures, group work and seminars.
