- an international perspective on politics and society is introduced and problematised
- subject-specific issues are discussed in terms of sustainable development
Module 2. Social Science Method and Current Civics Education Research, 7.5 ECTS cr
- central concepts and methods of importance to a source critical approach are studied and applied
- central concepts and methods of importance to validity, reliability and analysis in social science investigations are studied and trained
- current civics education research is presented and analysed
- students' own teaching is related to and problematised in relation to current civics education research
- current research on grading and assessment in the civics subject.
Module 3. Independent Academic Writing, 7.5 ECTS cr
- academic writing comprises individually formulated choices of topic and purpose, methodology and delimitations, collection and compilation of material, and written documentation of the study
- the academic text is presented logically and pedagogically and conforms to standard practice in terms of presentation of material and source referencing
- supervision of topic and other stages of the investigation and writing process
- a concluding seminar at which students present their texts, discuss the texts and serve as the peer reviewer of one text
- the grade awarded for the module is a total appraisal of all the components
- students have the opportunity to carry out field studies in Kenya.
Module 4. Participatory Citizenship, 7.5 ECTS cr
- an international perspective on school and teaching is introduced and applied through the study of other countries' civics education
- participation in the national and international community is described and problematised at the levels of individual and society, of which the latter includes actor and structure perspectives
- the student's accumulated subject and subject-specific experiences and skills are related to the concept of society and current research
- an international perspective is related to subject teaching through examples and applications.
