Scientific method I
7.5 ECTS creditsInstruction is in the form of literature study and supervision. The course is mainly netbased.
The course comprises the following components:
- theory of science and scientific concepts such as ontology, epistemology, paradigm, and evidence
- the relationship between these concepts, nursing, and nursing research
- the most common scientific paradigms in nursing research (positivism, constructivism, and pragmatism)
- the relation between the paradigms and different research questions
- the most common research designs for each paradigm, that is, quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods, and literature study
- the steps of the research process
- research ethical principles and guidelines applicable to nursing research independent of design
- human rights in relation to research ethics
- the structure of scientific articles
- reading scientific articles
- critical approaches to scientific texts
- review templates for scientific articles
- database searches
