Managing and Developing Theatre care
7.5 ECTS creditsInstruction is in the form of group work, lectures, field studies, clinical placement (VFU, 3 weeks), study assignments and seminars, all with an emphasis on the research basis of the area and evidence-based knowledge. Attendance at clinical placement is mandatory and the ability to work independently is emphasised.
The course is offered as full-time distance education.
The course integrates the components nursing (3.75 ECTS cr) and medical science (3.75 ECTS cr).
Theme: Organisation and Cooperation in Theatre Care
Students study the budget process and cost awareness. They practise cooperating in the theatre team and acquire knowledge of the emergency organisation for managing disasters and trauma.
Theme: The Leadership Role of the Theatre Nurse
Students study the leadership role of the theatre nurse in terms of responsibility and function in relation to rules and regulations pertaining to the work environment, accountability, deviation reporting and delegation. Leadership is also studied from a diversity and sustainability perspective. Suitable measuring and assessment instruments are identified and reviewed in terms of design and applicability and how quality assurance efforts in theatre care can affect patient safety. The leadership and pedagogical skills of the theatre nurse are also studied in relation to patients, colleagues, and students.

Admission requirements
Admitted to the Specialist Nursing Programme: Theatre Care, completed Theatre Nursing as a Profession (7.5 ECTS credits), clinical examination and practical placement, and 3.75 ECTS credits of the course Perioperative Nursing, (7.5 ECTS credits). Corresponding assessment can be made.
This course can be given as a contract education, the eligibility requirement for a contract education is "Eligible is the one appointed by their employer to attend the training".
