Instrument and Ensemble 5
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course comprises three modules and prepares students for practical placement in music.
Module 1: Instrument, 3 ECTS cr
Students play the chosen second instrument or instrument family in the chosen genre in the form of instrument classes, mainly involving instrumental/vocal skills practice, musical rendition, and musical communication.
Module 2: Music Pedagogy, 9 ECTS cr
The module treats general music pedagogy through
- seminars with presentations and discussions of current texts in general and music-specific journals, research, and debate,
- introduction to and preparation of their own teaching philosophy.
The module also treats instrument methodology through
- seminars on chosen instrument methodological themes,
- advanced methodological aspects based on a chosen model for the second instrument,
- supervised practice teaching on the second instrument in school or extra-curricular organisations,
- reflections on completed supervised practice teaching.
The component ensemble methodology mainly covers:
- seminars on different approaches to leading an ensemble,
- goals, content, planning,
- assessment of ensemble performances,
- specific methodology and supervised practice teaching in a large ensemble, chosen on the basis of the student's combination of instruments and genres.
Module 3: Music Theory, 3 ECTS cr
The module comprises components such as producing sound and music to moving pictures, and the history of popular and art music and its role and function in the 20th and 21st centuries.
