Final Project
15.0 ECTS creditsStudents will conduct an empirical study and write a project report. Students will also defend their reports in an open seminar and participate actively in the discussion of other students reports. Students choose a topic together with a supervisor, and should stay in touch with their assigned supervisors while researching and writing their reports.
The course also comprises research methods and the theory of science. Students will be expected to read a number of articles on these topics.
The final project comprises the following components:
a) Students will formulate a topic, aims and a question that they are going to answer.
b) Students will use relevant literature to further specify and develop their aims.
c) Students will choose an appropriate research method.
d) Students will choose what material to use.
e) Students will gather, analyse and systematise primary information.
f) Students will analyse and discuss this information.
g) Students will comply with relevant guidelines on research ethics.
h) Students will produce and submit a written project report.
Students should structure their project reports clearly and logically. Reports should be written in correct and appropriate Swedish. Students may also apply for permission to write their reports in a language other than Swedish. Students should follow recognised style conventions for presentation (quotations, tables, figures) and references (notes and reference list).
Students are strongly encouraged to give the finished report to their supervisors to comment on before submission. Students then present their reports in open seminars. These seminars are occasions for the students to discuss and evaluate their reports. Each student is assigned an opponent who will lead the discussion of their report. Students must make sure their report is distributed or otherwise made available to all seminar participants well in advance.
