Assessment, Grading and Special Education

The course centres on assessment and feedback as the basis of student learning. Different assessment purposes and corresponding forms of assessment are discussed as are how assessment can be integrated into teaching and what it means in terms of special education, learning theories, and subject-specific teaching theories.

- Assessment and evaluation are treated practically in test design and the formulation of knowledge goals that promote learning. Different forms of national assessment support such as the assessment portal (National Agency of Education) and national tests are treated.

- Exercises on how different types of assessment material can be weighted in grading.

- The role of assessment as part of the evaluation of school goals is treated, as well as local, national, and international performance measuring and their relation to feedback and assessment.

- Definitions of the concepts equity, reliability, and validity, and analyses of the relation between them.

- Assessment in the light of special education and in relation to various pedagogical consequences for development and learning. Opinions, values and attitudes are discussed.

- Different forms of functional challenges and disabilities are treated.

- Aspects of class, gender and ethnicity are discussed in relation to assessment

- Possibilities and problems related to digitalisation are discussed in relation to assessment.

The course content is related to an international as well as a national context.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
