30.0 ECTS creditsModule 1 Perspectives and Theories of Teaching Social Studies Subjects, 4 ECTS cr
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on social studies in education:
- subject-specific pedagogy in the form of pedagogical content knowledge (PCK)
- dynamic mindset
- developing language and knowledge skills in social studies subjects. .
Module 2: History in Education, 5 ECTS cr
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on history in education:
- the subjects content traditions
- conditions for creating historical knowledge
- the role of history according to current curricula
- history teaching perspectives and methods in curricula
Module 3: Geography in Education, 5 ECTS cr
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on geography in education:
- central processes created by nature and humankind that have shaped the surface of the earth and changed the landscape
- different living environments, the urban and rural populations and natural resources and their interrelations, locally, regionally and globally
- affects of human action on our present environment and how this impacts on the potential for sustainable development
- the composition of the map and how it can be used to present geographical data, and how to use simple ICT tools for this
- the role of the geography subject according to current curricula
- central geography teaching perspectives and methods in relation to current curricula.
Module 4: Religious Studies in Education, 5 ECTS cr
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on religious studies in education:
- rituals, living rules and sacred places in relation to the major world religions
- the importance of religious practices and livestyles as elements of cultural transmission and how these influence the values and lifestyles of individuals and groups in Swedish society
- the role of the religious studies subject according to current curricula,
- religious studies perspectives and methods in relation to teaching in accordance with current curricula.
Module 5: Civics in Education, 5 ECTS cr
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on civics in education:
- the sociological, economic and political relationship between individual and society on the basis of social issues
- social models and how they can contribute to how social development is viewed of in contemporary societies,
- the role of civics according to current curricula
- civics perspectives and methods in relation to teaching in accordance with current curricula.
Module 6 Social Studies Subjects in Education 6 ECTS cr.
The module provides the following perspectives and theories on social studies subjects in education:
- research on collegial and practice-related teaching from the perspective of developing language and knowledge skills in the social studies subjetcs,
- PCK-oriented subject-overarching teaching design of a social issue with the aim to develop language and knowledge skills in the social studies subjetcs.
