Ulcers and Wound Care II
7.5 ECTS creditsInstruction is in the form of introductory lectures, case and workshops.
The course integrates Medical Science (4.5 ECTS cr) and Nursing (3 ECTS cr) in the different course components and examination.
Students study the normal wound healing process and cause mechanism of acute and chronic wounds. The course covers pressure wounds, infected wounds and diabetic foot sores, as well as vacuum assisted closure, advanced biological treatment and local treatment principles relevant to different types of wounds depending on the patient's situation, clinical perspective, and evidence. Also treated are wound fluids, the importance of bandage, the problem of bioburden, antibiotic treatment and/or antiseptic preparations. Ethical aspects in connection with wound treatment are considered and the regulations and guidelines in the field studied.
