Ulcers and Wound Care I
7.5 ECTS creditsInstruction is in the form of introductory lectures, case, and workshops.
The course integrates Nursing (4 ECTS cr) and Medicine (3.5 ECTS cr).
Students study the normal wound healing process and cause mechanisms of acute and chronic wounds. The course covers acute wounds, ulcers, arterial wounds, and venous leg sores. Also studied are compression treatment, the importance of nutrition, pressure wound prevention, and local wound treatment principles based on the situation of the patient, clinical perspectives, and clinical evidence. The course also covers wound fluids, the importance of bandaging, the problem of bioburden, antibiotic treatment and/or antiseptic preparations. Regulations and guidelines in the field are included.
