AI Applications in Law

The course treats the broad concept Legal Tech which is an umbrella term for technology, especially software, used to deliver legal services and also for systems that support the work of legal practitioners. Their work is facilitated by powerful text databases that include laws, preparatory legal work, court rulings (praxis), and legal literature (doctrine). At the same time, there is a development towards streamlining the processes of businesses and authorities, which can result in automated decision-making which lacks human judgement. The course has a special focus on applications of artificial intelligence (AI) - both generative AI and machine learning (ML) - in legal work processes.

Instruction is in the form of lectures followed by discussion seminars chaired by lecturers from Information Systems and Law and external guest lecturers, laboratory sessions on AI use, and presentation seminars.

Progressive specialisation: A1N (has only first‐cycle course/s as entry requirements)

Education level: Master's level

Admission requirements: A degree of Bachelor (180 ECTS credits) in one of the main fields of study Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or Working Life Science, or a degree project of at least 15 ECTS credits at the G2E level in one of these fields, and upper secondary level English 6, or equivalent

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
