History and History Teaching 5
22.5 ECTS creditsThe course comprises three modules:
Module 1 Global nationalism, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with different theories of nationalism related to the emergence of the nation state, the ideology of nationalism, identity issues, and gender, and the role of these aspects in state building and state cessation, including regionalisation processes. The problems of nation building in countries of colonial background and the xenofobic expressions of nationalism in the 20th century are emphasised. Besides the political-cultural factors, the role of basic economic and social factors in connection with nation building and nationalism are treated.
Core issues in History teaching are considered including the concept of history use and how the subject has been used as an identity creating factor, historically and today.
Module 2 History education perspectives, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with certain history-specific teaching perspectives and their relation to the history of the History subject and deals with concepts as tools in the teaching of different conditions for learning and with practice-related research analysed in relation to current history teaching issues.
Module 3 History education issues, 7.5 ECTS cr.
The module deals with the present history education field in an international perspective and provides a basis for students to develop a research proposal for their degree project.
