The Role of Brain in Mental Health
7.5 ECTS creditsUnit 1: Brain functions in relation to perceptions, emotions, attention, anxiety and social communication. Schizophrenia, depression, ADHD, PTSD and autism are used as examples to explain the role of the brain in mental health.
Unit 2: The role of the brain in different psychological problems during different life stages.
The variation of brain function at different stages of life, leading to age-specific risks for different mental problems are discussed.
Unit 3: Physiological changes in the brain reacting to environmental factors.
Mental problems are discussed from the perspective of development phases and age groups.
Unit 4. Screening methods for mental disorders.
Sevral screening tools are used to measure emotions and behaviour, for example, to illustrate how preliminary diagnosis can be made.
