Language and Gender
7.5 ECTS creditsThe course treats current and earlier linguistic approaches to the interface between language and gender. The course covers theoretical and methodological perspectives in relation to research on both oral and written language data, with a special emphasis on how language can be gendered and how gender is performed and expressed in language use in various contexts such as everyday conversations, journalism, social media, at work and in school. The course treats methods and perspectives from for example sociolinguistics, critical discourse analysis, and conversation analysis, with an emphasis on qualitative research methods.The course highlights how linguistic approaches can contribute to further study of important issues in feminist theory, queer theory, masculinity studies, and so forth.

Admission requirements:
90 ECTS credits completed, including a degree project of 15 ECTS credits at the G2F level in English or another main field of study in the humanities or social sciences, and upper secondary level English 6, or equivalent.

Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
