Community Dance
7.5 ECTS creditsCommunity dance involves the art of dancing, participation and social sustainability through interacting with a local place and local people. In community dance the amateurs are experts on their own story and by collaborating with a professional artist they are supported in narrating and communicating it.
In this way community dance can function as a tool for social, human as well as artistic development. Community dance involves embodied understanding. The course is offered in English and starts with an on-campus workshop in community dance. Students carry out their own community dance project anywhere in the world with feedback provided. The course is concluded with a written report on the project.
The course provides opportunities to study different approaches to community dance activities through literature, lectures and laboratory workshops. The emphasis is on working with non-dancers in an environment which is not necessarily adjusted to dance, thus making dance socially relevant. Students carry out their own community dance project and conduct an investigation concerning the experience of the participating dancers.
