Practical course in Biology
15.0 ECTS creditsThe course is designed to provide work experience at a workplace where biology knowledge is useful. Students have the opportunity to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in their previous studies, and find out how biology-related work is organised and performed at a company or a public agency. The placement and field mentor must meet the approval of Karlstad University prior to the placement period.
The course comprises the following components:
- eight to nine weeks at the workplace, including the completion of an independent task in which biology knowledge is applied
- continuous documentation of the work practice in a journal, describing reflectively tasks and what happens at the workplace with reference to relevant literature such as steering documents, reports, and investigations in the area
- a week in which the work performed at the practical placement workplace is compiled for written and oral presentation.

60 ECTS credits in Biology (first cycle), including cell biology, genetics, botany, zoology, and ecology, or equivalent
Selection:
Selection is usually based on your grade point average from upper secondary school or the number of credit points from previous university studies, or both.
