Working Life Science
30.0 ECTS creditsModule 1. Working Life Science: Introductory Course 7.5 ECTS cr.
Instruction is in the form of lectures, group work and seminars. The emphasis is on modern working life, its organisation and impact on different categories of people in society. In addition, students are introduced to studies of knowledge and learning in the academia and other work contexts, as well as to basic theory of science. Students are required to present and discuss central and basic concepts in the fields of working life science and theory of science.
Module 2. Working and Forms of Work, 7.5 ECTS cr
The module deals with forms of work and their relation to different categories of people in terms of gender, ethnicity, age and education and the consequences of these relations. The module provides concrete descriptions based on relevant statistics as well as theoretical models of explanation.
Module 3. Working Life Science Research Methods 7.5 ECTS. cr.
Instruction is in the form of lectures, group work and seminars. Students work with interviews and questionnaires. The course includes studying the formulation of research problems, the research process and its stages, data collection techniques, such as interviews and questionnaires, documentation of results, designing a research study, finding sources and critically reviewing academic articles.
Module 4. Introduction to Organisation Theory 7.5 ECTS cr.
Instruction is in the form of lectures and work in groups to produce oral and written reports. The course includes studies of general organisation theory and its development as well as an introduction to modern theories, approaches and models of analysis. Basic issues and organisation concepts of structure, design, manangement and change effort are also treated. Students work with case studies and develop their ability to critically examine concepts and theories.
