Professor in Business Administration and Assistant Vice-Chancellor of Karlstad University. This spring you were invited to Monterrey Tech and EGADE Business School in Mexico to discuss research and collaboration. Can you tell us about some of your impressions from the trip?
- Monterrey Tech, which is considered to be one of the top universities in South America, has well-developed
collaboration with other universities, companies and organizations.
On June 26th - 29th researchers from CTF, together with more than 200 service researchers and business leaders from around the world, gathered in Miami, Florida, to discuss and present the latest trends and research results in the customer service and customer experience at the annual Frontiers in Service Conference.
In today’s society there is a large amount of data available that businesses and organizations can use to, for example, develop new services.
Ph D Student Pablo Moreno from the Spanish Science and Education Ministry will be a visiting us until end of December. We asked him what kind of research he is working on within his doctoral studies.
- My research area is within service innovation. I focus on different
relationships among customers and frontline employees, and their involvement in each of the developmental stages of new services.
We caught up with Professor Stephen Osborne, Chair of International Public Management and Deputy Dean of the Business School at University of Edinburgh, who is visiting us this week to meet with researchers Johan Quist and Martin Fransson.

We welcome Linda Bergkvist, Ph. D in Information Systems, to our research team. She defended her thesis on outsourcing in the IT industry in June, and will now pursue her research at CTF.
- Towards new challenges. That was the opening words in the preface of my dissertation. I remember my time
as a graduate student as joyful and rewarding, and it is with a smile that I now continue my academic journey.
Imagine that you are passing by the store window and through a message in your cell phone you are welcomed into the store, and you also get an offer to buy three products for the price of two. Or, you can easily find your way back to your parked car even though you forgot on which level you parked.
Professors Patrik Larsson, CTF, and Lena Gonäs, Working Life Science at Karlstad University, have contributed to this book with a chapter on the Swedish development of human resource management entitled "Employment Regimes and Personnel Work in Sweden".
The book contains studies of the historical development of human resource management (HRM) in
seventeen different nations.
Ph. D student in Psychology at CTF. You just came back from Bonn, Germany, what did you do there?
- I participated in a doctoral course on decision making at Max Planck Institute for Research on Collective.
Interesting, can you tell us more about the course?
- In the course we studied how to create and test models on how we think when we make decisions.

Abstract
This study investigates how lighting influences consumer evaluations of packaged food products. Fifty-eight participants evaluated two identical packaged meals (alternated between subjects) in a laboratory setting.
June 16-19 CTF hosted the FMM2014 in Karlstad, Sweden. This 4th Fourm FMM14 built on the foundations of the previous forums, and was co-chaired by professors Bo Edvardsson and Anders Gustafsson, CTF, together with the fathers of service-dominant logic; professors Robert F. Lusch, University of Arizona, and Stephen L.
Professor Bo Edvardsson has been awarded the title of Visiting Professor of Service Management in the Centre for Service Management (CSM) in the School of Business and Economics at Loughborough University, UK.
Professor Thorsten Gruber, Co-Director of CSM, commented on the appointment, saying: "It is great news that Professor Bo Edvardsson is joining CSM as a Visiting Professor. Bo has a fantastic research track record and is one of the leading authorities in the field.
Today the development is fast-paced. Many traditional industries and trades will disappear as today’s products and services are being replaced by new, innovative, cost-effective and customized solutions.
- Focus on, and get to know your customers!
This fall, CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University, will offer four online courses in Service Innovation. The courses are based on CTFs world-leading research in the field and are intended for professionals working with or having an interest in service, customer experiences and business development. All that is required to participate is a computer and an internet connection.
The approach of the courses is flexible and consists among others of short video lectures and group work.
What happens when manufacturing companies, who previously focused on products only, begin to focus on services? What challenges are they put up against and how can they face them? This is what Nina Löfbergs thesis is about.
Globalization and increased competition from low-cost countries has pushed many Swedish manufacturing companies firms to focus on services rather than only products.
Right now there is project at Samot, The Service and Market Oriented Transport Research Group at Karlstad University, which focuses on increasing the understanding of how travelers perceive their daily travel. The researchers have developed a tool which they can measure the experiences in real time.
- With the help of our mobile app, we hope to gain more knowledge about travelers experiences and needs.
Vinnova has granted 2.7 million SEK for the project ”User-oriented innovation within primary care through innovation groups”, that will be conducted by CTF, Service Research Center at Karlstad University
- We will develop a methodology to increase the level of innovation and to implement innovation in primary care.

- "Strengthening the transformative capacity of the pulp and paper industry by seeking new ways of producing, transferring and assessing knowledge" is the working title for my project. The focus is on service innovation and business models for the forest industry. My research environment will be at CTF.

- I was Visiting Professor at University of Canterbury. This was in the context of an international teacher and researcher exchange funded by the Erskine Programme.
