New unique international research programme on privacy and usability
2015-12-16Students from the whole world now have the opportunity to apply to a new unique international multidisciplinary training and research programme where doctoral students will reason, design and develop innovative solutions to questions related to the protection of citizens’ privacy. The focus is on user-friendly tools for privacy protection.
Sixteen universities, companies and public authorities from six different countries in Europe cooperate in the project Privacy&Us on educating thirteen doctoral students in academia and industry. It offers a combination of research-related and transferable competence skills that will enhance the students’ future careers.
“Privacy and usability on the internet constitute an urgent issue and there is a great need to address it. We will contribute with solutions and advance the state of the art,” says Simone Fischer-Hübner, the scientific coordinator of Privacy&Us and professor in computer science at Karlstad University.
The doctoral students will spend up to nine months visiting other project partners. This partnership between academia and industry give students the opportunity to develop both the theoretical and practical skills required to execute their research work. Two of the thirteen doctoral students will be employed at Karlstad University, Sweden
”All doctoral students will meet for courses and training every sixth month in different places in Europe. Other students and the public will be invited to attend, starting next autumn at Karlstad University,” says Leonardo Martucci, the project coordinator of Privacy&Us and associate professor at Karlstad University.
The Computer Science department at Karlstad University coordinates this innovative training network, linked to the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Action (MSCA) and the EU framework programme Horizon 2020. The total cost of the innovative training network Privacy&Us is 3.5 million Euro.
