Hello there Nurul Momen!

Welcome to Karlstad University! What and where have you studied before you began your employment here in February?
I completed my MSc from EIT Digital Master Program with a focus on innovation in Security and Privacy. During this program, I completed 1st year from University of Trento, Italy and 2nd year from Technical University of Berlin,Germany.
How do you like your new hometown?
I don’t like it, I love it! Despite having a small population, Karlstad gave me impression of a cosmopolitan city. I can easily recognize international diversity here. People seem to be very welcoming here. I must admit that
this place has been treating me very good. I just have to be patient and keep my fingers crossed for spring.
Why did you choose to apply to a position as a PhD student within Computer Science at Karlstad University?
The research area of PriSec played a pivotal role in my decision making. I saw the opportunity to begin with exactly what I was interested in during master studies. I was truly intrigued after meeting the people here and having a glimpse of impressive work environment.
What is your research focused on?
Currently I am investigating the security and privacy issues of applications’ permissions on Linux-based mobile operating systems.
What is your goal with your research?
Mobile devices in general, and smartphones in particular are crucial to our daily life. We rely on them, we carry them around, we store all sorts of sensitive data on them. They stay connected, which means that the information is gathered and accessible almost any time. As much as this is a great enhancement to user experience, it also brought several security and privacy concerns. It is about time we look for smart protection, for example - one that preserves good usability while protecting sensitive data, on smart devices.
