KK-Mesh
KK-Mesh - Enhanced Application Performance in Future Wireless Meshed Networks
The overall purpose with this project is to significantly improve performance of applications such as P2P in emerging wireless networks with a focus on multi-radio multi-channel Wireless Mesh Networks. Technical concept development will focus on efficient interaction of P2P services, channel assignment and routing, and on reordering robust transport services.
The following research problems will be addressed:
- Research on channel assignment and routing algorithms that enable mesh routers to automatically configure themselves according to traffic demands.
- Research on efficient overlay formation based on information received from the lower layers.
- Research on architectural models for efficient cross-layer information exchange, focusing on interactions between higher layer protocols, routing and channel assignment in mesh networks.
- Research on network wide broadcast that take the availability of multiple channels and radios into account, while adapting optimally lower layer parameters such as link speed.
- Research on reordering robust transport layer protocols considering different flow lengths and the possibilities offered by cross-layer optimization in the mesh context.
- Research on efficient evaluation of system level effects of the developed solutions.
The project strives to combine technical concept development with the development of enhanced test facilities and methods that allow not only detailed evaluation of individual technical solutions but also evaluation of their combined effect on application performance.
The project is funded by the Swedish Knowledge Foundation (KK-stiftelsen).
