Multi Access Solution Design and Implementation for 5G (Deutsche Telekom)
The goal of this project is, together with Deutsche Telekom, to jointly work towards designing and prototyping novel multi-access solutions for 5G networks, which may include packet scheduling, reordering and protocol design.
Most handsets available on the market today support connectivity to multiple access technologies including LTE or WiFi and can make use of some of them in parallel. In addition, 5G will increase diversity options to include NR (“New Radio”) –based air interfaces. Consequently, multi-access connectivity in wireless networks is becoming feasible and widely available. The simultaneous use of multiple disjoint (or partially disjoint) paths across the network increases the resilience of the connectivity by providing multiple paths, protects UEs from the failure of one path, and it also increases the efficiency of the resource usage, and thus increases the network capacity available to UEs.
