Research Areas
The Centre engages on researches on existing processes as well as on radically new functional materials and processes. Its core competences are surface treatment and graphic technology.
In the sustainable packaging chain, i.e. from paper and board production to end use consumption, the Centre focuses on the following research areas:
- Coating technology
- Sustainable pigment and barrier coating
- Flexography and functional printing
- Paper mechanics of surface treated materials
- Interaction between coating-based and surface treatment materials
BARRIERS AND PACKAGING
Research on functional barriers and barrier coatings is increasing due to its increasing demands in the packaging industry. The Centre collaborates with many research institutes, and industrial partners, both local and international, in undertaking bold steps toward producing paper with active properties.

PRINTING SURFACES AND CONVERTING
The influence of the surface on printability and print quality is rather great. Researches on pigment coating and modelling of light scattering in paper and coating are being undertaken. Furthermore, the Centre is actively involved in a project that modifies paper into electroconductive mateirals.
