15.0 ECTS creditsThe course builds on and enhances the students' basic knowledge of methodology at undergraduate level to prepare for the theoretical and practical requirements of the Master level. The link between theory and practice is central to the course.
Module 1 The Craft of Research, 5 ECTS cr
Students acquire the knowledge required to prepare for research. The philosophical principles of social science studies, the validity and reliability of methods and the use of inductive and deductive logic are treated. Students develop their skills in drawing conclusions and constructing research questions on the basis of previous research.
Module 2 The Methods and Process of Research, 5 ECTS cr
Students apply methodological knowledge by designing and carrying out a minor empirical study. The emphasis is on choosing the right method(s) in relation to the research question, and developing the ability to analyse data in relation previous research. Students work in groups to enhance their skills project management and interpersonal and intercultural communication. There is an emphasis on problem-solving in groups, the interaction of group members and how cultural differences affect the group activities.
Module 3 Communicating Science, 5 ECTS cr
Students develop knowledge and skills in academic writing and their ability to present research results visually and in writing. How to communicate research results and how they are received in various cultural contexts are treated along with the role of the media in research controversies.

Upper secondary school level English 6 or B, or equivalent. Bachelor's Degree with a Major in Media and Communication Studies, Information Systems, or equivalent.
