Värmland writes
We would like to encourage and inspire more people to write as well as develop the storytelling tradition that has traditionally been prominent in Värmland. Värmland Writes is run by the Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies at Karlstad University and forms part of the project Värmland Reads, which was launched by Region Värmland in 2015.
Being able to read and write is required for participation in society, both for those whose mother tongue is Swedish and for new citizens. The Department of Language, Literature and Intercultural Studies conducts research and education in these subjects and courses are offered in creative writing as well as Swedish as a second language.
Short story contest and book
This year, 2017, there is once again a short story contest, the theme of which is some kind of connection to Värmland. Stories should be approximately 10 000-20 000 characters and the deadline for submissions is 30 April. Three winners will be published in a book alongside other writers from Värmland. The book will be published in cooperation with Votum publishers and released in the Värmland stand at the Göteborg Book Fair 28 September-1 October.
See more information in attached files (poster and flyer) under “Documents” to the right.
Sharpen your pencil! We are looking forward to your contribution.
Writing workshop for students
On 9 March, we will arrange a writing workshop at the University Library. Emelie Spaak, a Karlstad University student and the winner of last year’s short story contest, will be there to talk about her writing.
Time: 16:00-18:00. Welcome!
We welcome anyone who is interested to participate through arranging their own activities – and we are interested in collaboration.
Do not hesitate to get in touch if you have questions!
