Research
My current research is largely about different perspectives on how we create good conditions for health in the population. It is about promotion and salutogenic perspectives and it is about social sustainability and the formation of an equally distributed health.
After 12 years at University West and four years at Sahlgrenska Academy at the University of Gothenburg, I joined KAU in 2021 and then landed in a research environment with a focus on children and young people's health, in which I was quickly and generously offered a place. It has resulted in a couple of studies on children's and young people's perceptions of the concepts of health and mental health, which I co-authored with, among others, colleagues at the Department of Public Health.
Currently, most of my research time is occupied by a 3-year collaborative project dealing with the promotion of mental health in a school environment. The overall aim is to develop a model for sustainable health promotion work in a school environment with a focus on mental health among children and young people. The project is called 'Hand in hand we stand'.
I am also assistant supervisor to a PhD student in Global Health at the University of Gothenburg, where the project is about increasing knowledge about the need for long term care for an aging population in Indonesia.
At the time being, we are also in the process of recruiting a PhD student at our department for a project that aims to develop and evaluate coordinated interventions that prevent and treat mental illness among young people.
As for my previous research background, it is mostly within the field of epidemiology, and mainly registry epidemiology. I wrote my thesis on the health and living situation of the Sami people. Over the years, I have been involved in various smaller research projects where my research can be said to have been characterized by the meeting between an indigenous population's conditions for health and a health-promoting perspective. Participation, long-term perspective, holistic view, sense of coherence are all concepts that are found in this meeting and that I have come to dwell on in terms of research since the dissertation.
