Natalie Durbeej
Research
My research mainly concerns children and adolescents, focusing on examining mental health problems and psychiatric conditions, as well as associated factors and outcomes in different populations. Furthermore, my research involves implementing and evaluating preventive and health-promoting interventions in these groups. I primarily teach in the master’s programme in public health and supervise students and doctoral candidates.
Main research projects:
*Long-term outcomes of mental health problems and socioeconomic deprivation among preschool children – morbidity, school performance, healthcare use, and healthcare costs. Funder: Forte (PI).

Bio
I completed my PhD in 2014 at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience, Karolinska Institutet, with the dissertation "Offenders with mental health problems and problematic substance use: treatment interventions and crime relapse", and subsequently worked as a postdoctoral researcher within the research group STAD (Stockholm Prevents Alcohol and Drug Problems) at the same institution. In 2017, I took up a position as a researcher at the Department of Public Health and Caring Sciences, Uppsala University. In 2025, I began working as a senior lecturer at the Department of Health Sciences, Karlstad University. In addition to my research, I serve as a substitute member of the Swedish Ethical Review Authority, Medical Division 3, in Uppsala. I am also a member of the scientific committee for the European Public Health Conference (EUPHA).
