Research
My research is rooted in transport psychology and focuses on how everyday travel and mobility influence people's well-being, independence, and participation in society. A longstanding and continuing area of my research is children's and young people's mobility. I investigate how school travel, mode choice, and experiences during the journey relate to emotional well-being and conditions for learning. I also study parents' decisions regarding their children's travel and how safer, more independent, and sustainable travel habits can be encouraged.
Over time, my research has expanded to include mobility and accessibility across different stages of life. I explore how individual and environmental conditions shape people's opportunities to participate in activities and maintain an active and fulfilling life.
By integrating transport psychology with service research and service design, I investigate how transport services and digital solutions can be developed around people's needs and experiences. My research includes public transport, demand-responsive transport, and digitally supported services, with a particular focus on the interplay between objective and perceived accessibility, autonomy, and quality of life.
