Research
My research is on how short-term flow regulation (hydropeaking) affects riparian zones downstream from hydropower plants. More specificly, I'm looking at the effects on
- Sediment dynamics - both sediment yields and resultant substrate composition.
- Ice conditions and erosion - using time-lapse to quantify ice movements during the winter, and then connecting this to shoreline erosion.
- Decomposition - using the Tea Bag Index, to see how the fluctuations in water level (and thereby oxygen) affect decomposition rate and stabilization of organic material.
- Vegetation - including species diversity, composition, and coverage.
