Doris Posch
Research
Doris is Associate Senior Lecturer in Media and Communication Studies at the Department of Geography, Media and Communication at Karlstad University (SE). She is Deputy Head and Senior Scientist at the Inter-University Organization Science & Arts at Paris-Lodron-University Salzburg (AT) and Mozarteum University Salzburg (AT). Since 2017, Doris is a lecturer at the University of Vienna (AT), the University of Applied Arts Vienna (AT), the University of Art and Design Linz (AT), Paris-Lodron-University Salzburg (AT) and Mozarteum University Salzburg (AT). Doris is Co-Founder, Co-Director and Co-Manager of the annual International Film Festival Kaleidoskop in Vienna (AT) since 2019 and Co-Founder of the curatorial collective of film cultures CineCollective.
Doris holds a PhD in Theatre, Film and Media Studies from the University of Vienna (AT). She studied at the Université de Montréal (CA) and at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (BE) and graduated both in Theatre, Film and Media Studies and in French and Francophone Studies at the University of Vienna (AT). She also studied Critical Studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna (AT). From 2015-2019, Doris was a Visiting Scholar at New York University (NYU) (US), a Visiting Researcher at Concordia University in Montreal (CA), a fellow of the Austrian Academy of Sciences and a Marietta Blau fellow.
In her doctoral thesis entitled Cinema of Relations: Emerging Film Cultures of Haiti (2021), Doris focused on the aesthetics, narratives, imaginaries, non-linear history, and trans-generational knowledge transmission in current visual cultures of Haiti, its diasporas, and the Caribbean at large.
In her current research, Doris focuses on collective practices and relational agencies in film and visual cultures, and in the arts from a transcultural, decolonial perspective.
