Research
My research examines how forced return is governed, enacted, and learned across policy, professional practice, and training in intercultural contexts. Drawing on the Swedish Prison and Probation Service’s transport operations in forced return, I examine how communication, professional action, and training shape encounters between state actors and people in vulnerable situations.
The project approaches this phenomenon from three interconnected perspectives: policy, professional practice, and training.
Article 1 analyses policy documents from the Swedish Prison and Probation Service and compares how the agency formulates its mandate with how the European Border and Coast Guard Agency (Frontex) frames similar responsibilities in its documents.
Article 2 draws on qualitative interviews and highlights transport officers’ own perspectives on their work and how they describe and make sense of their role in practice.
Article 3 focuses on training and explores how professional knowledge develops through experience in relation to intercultural learning.
