Research
I am a sociologist based at the Department of Social and Psychological Studies at Karlstad University.
My research explores the meanings of home, possessions and homemaking practices across different cultural and social contexts, including homemaking and the sharing economy, material cultures and migrant/diasporic homemaking. Initially trained as a sociologist, I have developed an increasingly interdisciplinary approach to researching everyday life, with qualitative, ethnographic and visual methods forming an important part of my research. I am particularly interested in creative ways to collect data and communicate research results that capture the nuanced and complex dimensions of everyday life, domesticity, and belonging.
My recent research has focused on ageing, migration, and digital technologies, as well as the changing nature of home and domestic life in the context of digitalisation and platform economies.
Teaching
As a long-standing university lecturer and Programme Leader for the MA in Critical Social Analysis since 2026, I see research and teaching as closely connected. My commitment to research methods began during my time at Teesside University (2010-2013) and Leeds Beckett University, UK (2013-2020), and continues through my interest in teaching sociology in ways that encourage students to think critically, creatively and empirically.
