Research
My research interests span a variety of topics. Much of my work has focused on early modern political and cultural history, dynastic history, and royal studies. In recent years, I have turned my attention to the cultural history of media, book history, historiography, and the history of the humanities, encompassing both the early modern and modern periods.
I am currently leading a research project on the publication of historical sources, funded by Ridderstads stiftelse för historisk grafisk forskning and the Royal Swedish Academy of Letters, History, and Antiquities. In this project, I examine the ideas and practices that have shaped how scholars in different media landscapes transformed handwritten documents, particularly the writings of the seventeenth-century Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, into printed editions and digital reproductions, and the historiographical consequences of these media transformations.
I am also conducting a research project on the history of research funding in Sweden, financed by Helge Ax:son Johnsons stiftelse. In the project, I examine the so-called "lärdaverksanslaget", which was established in the 1840s as a state grant for scientific travels and the publication of textbooks and "learned works". I am particularly interested in how different kinds of scholarship was evaluated, how the "learned" was defined, and how diverse disciplines emerged as the result of boundary work.
I am also interested in questions related to history didactics and teaching. With support from Centrum för de samhällsvetenskapliga ämnenas didaktik (CSD), I am developing a research project on how the subject of history, on different educational levels, can become relevant to students and pupils. The project focuses on how personal stories, experiences, places, and objects are contextualised and linked to wider narratives and historical processes.
Teaching
I teach history and supervise student essays at the basic and advanced levels, including within the teacher education programme.
