Physics
At Karlstad University you can study Physics at undergraduate level, Master level and Doctoral level. You can also get in contact with researchers and Ph.D. students who work with current questions in Materials Physics, Theoretical Physics and Physics Didactics research.
We offer high-quality programmes education in Physics that lead to Bachelor's and Master's of Science qualifications in Physics and in Engineering Physics, as well as a number of Teacher degrees with subject content in Physics for different school levels. Complementary education for practicing teachers is also given.
The undergraduate education in physics gives you theoretical knowledge and experimental skills in both classical and modern physics. At advanced level, the education is aimed at reaching a deeper knowledge in modern physics, in the field of nano-materials, as well as fields, strings and gravitation.
Future and practising teachers also have the opportunity to take courses in technology-specific teaching methodology, which is also field of research in the department.
The physics department's researchers are active in many research projects in material physics, theoretical physics and physics didactics. The research has attracted external funding from the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Energy Agency and K.A. Wallenberg Foundation, among others.
Physics was the first discipline for PhD education at Karlstad University. We offer education on the doctoral level in three areas of Physics, corresponding with our research fields: Materials Physics, Theoretical Physics and Physics Didactics. PhD student positions are advertised under vacant positions on the KaU website. Read more about under Doctoral studies.
