International Exchange within Physics Education
2026-02-17Research and teaching environments were presented, along with good examples of teaching that promotes active learning and strengthens research‑based education.
– Between 9 and 13 February, we welcomed a delegation from the Department of Physics at the University of Bucharest, Romania, says Andrea Muntean, Senior Lecturer in Physics. They visited us within the framework of Erasmus+ and as a continuation of a visit in 2025, when our colleague Lorena Solvang travelled to Bucharest. Our guests work at the Division of Matter Structure, Atmospheric and Geophysics, and Astrophysics, where Sandra Voinea serves as Prefect. Among several educational programmes, they presented their master’s programme SERA (Renewable and Alternative Energy Sources, Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials), which is linked to the 3Nano-SAE research centre, as well as their doctoral programme in physics education.
During the visit, the guests gave a presentation of the research and teaching environment at the University of Bucharest, followed by several discussions on how teaching activities can be connected to existing research areas. We exchanged good practices in teaching aimed at increasing student engagement, promoting active learning, and strengthening research-based education.
– Our guests also visited laboratories in geomatics, chemistry, and physics, and expressed interest in establishing collaborations between our master’s programmes.
– We were impressed by our colleagues’ openness and professionalism, as well as by the friendly and collaborative academic atmosphere, say Adriana Bălan. The university’s infrastructure, efficient organisation, and strong focus on innovation confirmed the high standards of the host institution. We return to the University of Bucharest with a clear ambition to strengthen this collaboration and develop joint academic and research projects that can bring significant benefits to both institutions.
