The Bachelor of Science in Social Work demonstrates high quality
2026-06-03The Bachelor of Science in Social Work at Karlstad University demonstrates high quality. This is confirmed by the Swedish Higher Education Authority’s (UKÄ) national evaluation of all 19 programmes in Sweden leading to a degree in social work.
According to the assessment panel, the programme is well designed and based on a sound scientific and professional foundation. It also shows clear progression throughout the programme.
– It is very encouraging that UKÄ has found that our work with the programme and the education of future social workers is of high quality, says Programme Coordinator Jenny Höglund, senior lecturer in social work.
Among the strengths highlighted are the programme’s strong links to professional practice and its collaboration with the field, innovative teaching and learning activities, and the university’s continuous development efforts.
– We are in the final stage of a comprehensive revision process that began in 2022. This has included pedagogical development and a more tightly structured programme – a process in which the entire teaching team has been involved and has contributed, says Jenny Höglund, and continues:
– It is also encouraging that the number of first-choice applicants has increased by more than 50 percent for the autumn term 2026. This reflects the confidence prospective students have in the programme, which we are committed to building on.
