Mirai 3.0
MIRAI is a collaborative project between seventeen Swedish and Japanese universities, aiming to strengthen cooperation in education, research, and innovation. The goal is to increase collaboration across disciplines and sectors, focusing on addressing societal challenges such as climate crises, pandemics, and an aging population.
The third phase of MIRAI (2024-2026) focuses on global challenges, which will be addressed in collaboration (Project Plan 2024-2026). Through this, MIRAI aims to contribute not only to Sweden-Japan cooperation but also to global issues that should be discussed and addressed across nations at an international level.
Based on the efforts and work done during the previous MIRAI 2.0, the new phase will contribute to both the development of young researchers and addressing global challenges. MIRAI 3.0 will work in interdisciplinary teams focusing on four selected societal challenges:
Challenge 1: Health and an aging population (part of SDG 3)
Challenge 2: Climate adaptation, disaster and risk management, and prevention (part of SDG 13)
Challenge 3: Resilient cities and communities – policies, strategies, local governance, and urban planning (part of SDG 11)
Challenge 4: Materials for energy conversion and storage: renewable energy, solar energy conversion, electrification, sustainable processes, and resource use (part of SDG 7)
The project is coordinated by Umeå University together with Kyushu University in Japan.
Karlstad University, as a partner in MIRAI 3.0, has the following expectations for the project:
- To contribute to the various Global Challenges defined within MIRAI 3.0
- To engage Karlstad University’s existing collaboration arenas that are relevant to the various knowledge areas within MIRAI 3.0, including DigitalWell Arena, STING BioEconomy, SOLVE, SESBC, DAMI4.0.
- To contribute to improving the social sustainability aspect of innovation and entrepreneurship, including utilizing support from the Grants and Innovation Office, www.kau.se/gio
