Library areas
The University Library is organized in six areas of activity.
Research and Publishing support
The library's research and publishing support provides support and resources to researchers and doctoral students throughout the entire research process. From information retrieval, academic literature supply, reference management to scientific publication.
Research and publishing support provides help to search for information in databases and to make scientific literature available. They also provide advice on publishing issues and Open Access, have workshops in DiVA registration, EndNote and copyright, and work with bibliometrics.

Customer service and learning environment
Customer service and learning environment are working with the environment in the library and to create an attractive learning environment adapted to new technology and new teaching methods. They are also responsible for the library's customer service. Visitors can get help with information retrieval, reference management etc. in the library's two information desks. Organizing activities and mini-lectures in the library’s Learning lab are also included in the group's responsibilities.

Media supply and IT
Media supply is responsible for purchasing both printed and electronic materials, as well as managing interlibrary loans and subscriptions for databases and other e-resources. Maintenance of the collections as well as exposure in the physical library are also included in the department's tasks. The department is also responsible for the library's IT systems.

Academic Writing Centre
The library’s Academic Writing Centre offers individual tuition in Swedish and English to students who wish to improve and develop their academic writing. The writing tutors also hold lectures and workshops in academic writing.

Teaching
The teaching group develops and implements library education for students. The teaching takes place in close collaboration with the teachers and addresses both distance and campus students. The group teaches in information retrieval, source criticism, reference management and copyright. They also produce instructional films in database search, reference management and more as a support and complement to the teaching.

Centre for Teaching and Learning (UPE)
Centre for Teaching and Learning (UPE) supports and stimulates the development of university teachers’ teaching competence. The unit provides active and professional support for quality development of education in the first, second and third cycle at Karlstad University. The unit is responsible for qualifying university pedagogical education and can offer qualified support for the development of educational design through flexible teaching and examination forms. The design of the unit's training and support is based on research on higher education, local and national governance documents and guidelines, as well as discussions and exchanges of experience both at Karlstad University and within national and international networks.
