Local test (LI-test) – Jazz
Applicants to main instrument or vocal in Jazz genre are required to partake in the local entrance test (L-test) by submitting videos of themselves playing. (Updated April 8)
Within the jazz genre area at the Ingesund School of Music, both traditional and modern jazz are included. However, the musical material used in the programme is often drawn from other related genres such as blues, Latin, funk, pop, rock, and soul. The common denominator of the jazz genre area is that a key element of the music is improvised rhythmic interplay, in which the individual musician develops their ability to improvise and to communicate musically with other members of an ensemble. It is within the improvisational aspect that the jazz musician can demonstrate their artistic expression and technical proficiency.
All applicants to the jazz genre area must submit video recordings of two pieces of differing character. One piece should be triplet-based (such as swing or shuffle), and the other should be in straight subdivision (such as beat or Latin). You must perform the theme and play an improvised solo on both pieces.

MANDATORY COMPONENTS FOR EACH INSTRUMENT
- Piano and guitar: You must also demonstrate your comping skills.
- Bass: You must also demonstrate walking bass.
- Drums: Both of your pieces must include elements of improvised solo playing, for example over a chorus, a vamp, or alternating with another soloist in 4s or 8s.
- Voice: No specific audition requirements.
- Wind instruments: No specific audition requirements.
You should choose pieces in the style or styles you are most proficient in. Your improvisational skills and your ability to relate to the accompaniment are crucial for the audition result. In order for the jury to assess your ability to interact musically, it is required that in your recorded auditions you perform together with an ensemble, an accompanying musician, or a backing track (alternatively digitally generated accompaniment, such as using the app iReal Pro).
