Ensemble leading/conducting
Applicants to ensemble leading/conducting are required to partake in an entrance test meeting the jury online, as well as submitting work samples (videos) according to the instructions below.
Test components
Choose between the following ensemble types and pieces of music:
- Eine Kleine Nachtmusik (Instrumental ensemble).
- Mozart, W.A. (2002). Eine kleine Nachtmusik für Streichquartett, KV 525. Kassel: Bärenreiter.
- Ljuset skimrar (Choir or vocal ensemble).
- Händel, G.F. (1984). Två sånger. Stockholm: Gehrman.
In the videos you should show
- A rehearsal situation where you work with the ensemble with the chosen musical piece
- A performance of the whole piece, one video where you are seen from the front and one film showing the ensemble. Both videos show the same performance.
It is important that you are shown in the picture at all times, leading the group. The videos can be max 10 minutes long with a total of 30 minutes.
Submit your performances as three separate video clips. Instructions regarding the online test, ID check and how to submit your videos will be sent via email after 17 April 2024.
Instructions and Criteria for videos
In order for the video to be approved, the applicant must meet the following criteria:
- At the start of the video, clearly state which piece you are going to perform.
- The total length of the videos should not exceed 20 minutes and each video should be a maximum of 10 minutes long. Total time for percussion is a maximum of 30 minutes.
- The recordings should be an uninterrupted clip from beginning to end, it is not allowed to make edits.
- You must be able to hear the applicant clearly throughout the clip.
- You must be able to see the content of the video clearly. The camera should be placed so that both face and hands are visible throughout the clip.
- The recordings should be uploaded using the following file formats: MP4 or MOV (or equivalent via mobile phone camera).
Should we discover that the criteria are not being met or that the video or sound has been modified in any way, the applicant’s video can be regarded as invalid.
Online test:
You will be invited to a test with the jury 29-30 April 2024. This online test takes place via Zoom. During the online test the jury will ask questions regarding these parts of your videos:
- Your study process
- Rehearsal with the ensemble
- Conduction techniques
- Reflection and development
Assessment Criteria
Assessment criteria for primary instrument entrance exams Musik 60 hp and/or Musiklinjen College
To be approved for the entrance exam in ensemble leading/conducting, the applicant must demonstrate the following:
- Basic skills in musical interpretation
- Limited skills in conducting/baton technique and hand gestures
- Basic knowledge in regard to ensemble performance and rehearsing
The applicant will be disapproved if he/she/they are unable to demonstrate the three aforementioned criteria during the entrance exam to Musik 60 hp and/or Musiklinjen College.
