Biography
I trained at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen and continued my studies in New York. I made my debut as Donna Anna at Aarhus Sommeropera. From 1999 to 2016, I was a soloist at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen. During these years, I performed a wide repertoire, including Tosca, Lady Macbeth from Macbeth, Marguerite (Faust), Gilda (Rigoletto), Helmwige (The Valkyrie), Vitellia (La clemenza di Tito), Rosalinde (Die Fledermaus), Mimì (La Bohème), and the Countess (The Marriage of Figaro).
I have participated in several CD recordings, including songs by Rued Langgaard with pianist Ulrich Stærk (dacapo 8.224011) and Niels W. Gade’s Spring Fantasy with the Tivoli Symphony Orchestra (dacapo 8.224051).
Over the years, I have received many prizes and honours for my work in the world of opera. Among these are the Edith Aller Memorial Grant (1995), the Frederiksborg Cultural Center Artist Prize (1998), the Aksel Schiøtz Prize (1999), the Elisabeth Dons Memorial Grant (2000), the Edith Brodersen Memorial Grant (2008), the Order of the Dannebrog (Knight, 2001), the Knight’s Cross, 1st Class (2009), and the Ole Haslund Artist Foundation (2016).
Alongside my singing career, I have also served as the head of the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Academy of Music since 2006. I work as a vocal teacher and coach to many professional singers, both from Denmark and abroad. In 2015, I was a guest professor at the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre.
I also served as the director of the Opera Academy at the Royal Danish Theatre in Copenhagen from 2006 to 2024, where I was responsible for the training of a number of Scandinavian opera stars, including Audun Iversen, Yngve Søberg, Jakob Skov Andersen, Lise Davidsen, and Astrid Norstad.
Next in line are Karlstad University and Ingesund School of Music, where I will work in parallel as an adjunct professor alongside my current position at the Norwegian National Opera & Ballet, where I lead WOYS – The Wilhelmsen Opera Studio for Young Singers.
“I am very much looking forward to beginning a new teaching chapter in Arvika. Simply arriving at this beautiful place is both an inspiration and a joy. I hope to contribute to the young singers’ development — to give them a solid and secure foundation so that they have the chance to build a long and exciting career. And to do this in collaboration with skilled colleagues.”
