Research strategy / development plan for the subject
The ambition of earlier strategies has mainly been to promote collaboration between the subject of History and other disciplines at doctoral level, locally at Karlstad University as well as nationally and internationally. This is still centrally important for the subject. The research profile of the subject comprises two main specialisations, channeled primarily through research conducted at The Centre for Regional Studies (CRS) and The Centre for Social Science Education (CSD), respectively. The subject has developed a broad partnership for research and bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral education with the subject of History at Linköping University.
The research strategy for 2016-2018 comprises six goals:
- To support lecturers doing research in the subject in suitable ways in order for the subject to get at least two associate professors and one professor in 2016-2017 through promotions.
- To enter into affiliation with a guest professor working 15% in the subject for a year starting in 2016.
- To enter into affiliation with an externally recruited person for a postdoctoral appointment over two years starting in 2016, in order to stimulate the research environment and network of the subject.
- For researchers in the subject to submit or actively participate in at least two major applications for external project funds each year.
- To work in a more focused manner for internationalisation of the research conducted in the subject, in relation to both CSD and CRS. The new postdoctoral resource is seen as particularly significant in this regard, as are the funds granted to the subject by Regional Studies Association for participation in the development of an international network for regional history.
- To cultivate the contacts of the doctoral programme nationally. The declaration of intent shared with the doctoral programme in History at Linköping University concerning collaboration at doctoral level is especially important in this context.
The research conducted in the subject is connected to the themes stated in the research plans of CSD and CRS, see links to the right.
