The project Bruksort 2.0 researches the development of Hagfors
2025-03-03Bruksort 2.0 (Industrial town 2.0) is an innovative project that aims to strengthen Hagfors through social development, citizen participation and focus on mobility. The subjects of Business Administration and Media and Communication Studies at Karlstad University are part of the project.
Hagfors in Värmland is a town characterised by the steelworks Uddeholm AB – an industry founded in the 17th century that has contributed to the municipality’s development and community, providing job opportunities and attracting more people to live there. Uddeholm AB has been the lifeblood of Hagfors for a long time. However, a declining population, along with high demands on skills supply, are big challenges for the community of Hagfors today.
– The town has a long history as an industrial town, with a strong industrial heritage, an active community and cultural life, and a commitment to development, says Jenny Karlsson, senior lecturer in Business Administration at the Service Research Center (CTF) and Karlstad Business School. This provides a solid foundation for creating opportunities and solutions for sustainable social development.
– The citizens of Hagfors are very committed to the development of their town and are willing to participate in processes aimed at developing and shaping the future of Hagfors, says Linda Ryan Bengtsson, docent in Media and Communication Studies.
The subjects of Business Administration and Media and Communication Studies will contribute with knowledge and perspectives on sustainable social development, visions for the future and participation. The combination of these two subjects helps to understand and promote various aspects of sustainable development.
– In the study, we will support and follow the interaction between the local business community, the interaction between industry, the municipality and the citizens, as well as how people view their town and their opportunities, says Jenny Karlsson.
Sustainability – a key component in the project
Sustainability is integrated by focusing on long-term economic, social and environmental development. By promoting innovation, strengthening the local community and identifying sustainable solutions, the project aims to create a balance between these aspects to contribute to a viable future for Hagfors.
– Shaping a sustainable future requires us to actively envision different possibilities and work together to turn visions into reality. The way we envision the future influences how we see ourselves and our opportunities, and by developing new perspectives, we can open up new paths moving forward, says Jenny Karlsson.
