... researcher and lecturer at University of Wollongong. You are also an associate professor of Information Systems here at Karlstad Business School. Commuting between the two work places takes an unusually long time – about 32 hours of travel from door to door.
How come you work here in Karlstad?
- I came in contact with Information Systems at the beginning of the 2000’s and have had cooperation with Samot and CTF. This time I have been at Information Systems through an Erasmus-exchange.
What have you been up to during your two weeks here?
-I been involved in tuition for about 16 hours, for example about research on observations for user tests. I was very impressed by the new students, their understanding and mature way to reason. Hopefully, some of what I said was useful and interesting for them, I certainly enjoyed teaching them.
- I also held a seminar here at Informations Systems - “Supporting Enterprise Innovation through Internal Crowdsourcing: A Case of EMU at MTR, Hong Kong”. More and more companies and organisations involve their coworkers to identify possible solutions for different problems and challenges in their business, but also to develop new products and services. The problem may be that when several thousands of employees bring suggestions and ideas, the amount of suggestions may be unmanageable. It is not so easy to find technical systems that can sort out and manage this.
I also joined the whole group for a research conference in Lund. It was amazing! And completely different from the environment around my university in Australia. Wollongong is also very beautiful and the university is situated about eight miles south of Sydney.
What is your field of research?
-My area is mainly on how to use the knowledge of human communication to understand and develop information systems. It is part of what the discipline Information Systems deals with here in Karlstad, with Ozlab, the testing lab for testing among other things e-services.
