Welcome to Geography
Geography is a unique subject that combines the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities.
At Karlstad University, we explore everything from global connections to local perspectives, with a focus on both change and continuity. Key concepts such as place, space, landscape, region, connections and communication are at the centre as we create a holistic picture of how humans interact with the natural environment.
With sustainable development as a natural starting point, the subject of geography offers both tools and methods for understanding and analysing the world around us. Maps and models are used in different formats and for different purposes, giving you both theoretical insights and practical skills, framed by didactic considerations.
You will combine knowledge with experience and reflection, theoretical reasoning with practical exercises. Studies take place both in the classroom and in the field, which makes the geography subject a broad and versatile education that equips you for both professional life and everyday life.
We offer both on-campus and distance learning courses up to 90 credits. Our courses can be taken within the teacher training programme and as separate courses, as well as part-time. Take the chance to immerse yourself in a subject that helps you understand both the world and everyday life. Geography will help you find your way!
