Kick-off for the PIONEERS-6G project
2026-06-03The EU-funded project PIONEERS-6G (Platform and Device Innovations for Energy-Efficient, Resilient, and Secure 6G IoT Systems), coordinated by Karlstad University, has officially kicked off.
Over two days, all project partners gathered at Karlstad University to establish the framework for the work ahead.
– It was very valuable to meet all the partners and get to know each other better. The kick-off meeting was both productive and constructive, and we have laid a solid foundation for the work ahead, says Giuseppe Caso, project coordinator of PIONEERS-6G. Together, we will investigate the limitations of today’s 5G networks for IoT and develop solutions for future 6G-based IoT systems. The goal is to validate these solutions through demonstrations in industrial, underground, underwater, and global test scenarios.
PIONEERS-6G is coordinated by Karlstad University and brings together project partners from Spain, Germany, Italy, the United Kingdom, and Greece: Telefónica Innovación Digital, NEC Laboratories Europe, Consorzio Nazionale Interuniversitario per le Telecomunicazioni, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, RINICOM Limited, MULINI SRL, and Envolve Entrepreneurship. The project is funded by the European Union through the Smart Networks and Services Joint Undertaking (SNS JU) and will run for three years.
