Prospective secondary school teachers are offered the following first subject majors at Karlstad University: social science, geography, Swedish, English, mathematics, and sport science.
The first subject can be combined with any of the other first subjects offered as a second subject. (Swedish and Social Science can not be combined.)

The programme for teaching at secondary school includes two subjects, a major comprising 90 ECTS credits and a second major comprising 60 ECTS credits. The education consists of three parts: education core studies, practical placement, and subject and subject-specific teaching methodology. Students start studying their chosen major. Then they move on to study general perspectives on the teaching profession and school and for the rest of the programme, general perspectives alternate with studies in their second major and practical placement.Form of Instruction
